Ft. Defiance Rifle and Pistol held its first match of 2021 and the first match with the new Silver Mountain targets on Saturday May 22. I would like to thank all those that turned out to make it a great, if a little long, day. With 23 shooters in attendance this was by far the best attendance we have had in many years. We did discover a few bugs we will have to work out with the targets but all in all I believe they worked very well and everyone had a good time.
Top honors for the day went to Benjamin Pickel with a fine 793-29. Not far off the pace was Mark Aussieker with a 788-19. After offhand and sitting it was looking like High Junior was going to be a four-way battle between Cole Aussieker, Benjamin Holliger, Maia Pickel, and Ikraam Khan being down 16, 17, 22, and 24 points respectively. But little did we know that Maia was going to go into beast mode and threw a beat down on everyone in rapid prone. After shooting her first ever clean on her first string with a 100-7, Maia decided to show it was not a fluke, and backed it up with a 100-8 for an awesome 200-15! Her 196 slow prone sealed the deal for a 774-26 and high junior and high woman honors. Did I mention Maia is a 12-year-old with a sharpshooter classification? Way to go Maia!
Again a big thank you to all who came out. Next match is right around the corner on Saturday June 5th. Since we only have 6 targets please drop me a text if you plan on being there. I have been assured the Weiner hut will be open for business at the next match and they promise to give Portillo’s a run for their money. If we have enough shooters for 4 relays we will break them up and have 2 morning relays and 2 afternoon relays. So when you pre-register let me know which you would prefer.
