Fortunately we had great weather all weekend. Sunny skies and warm temperatures.
Jumping out with the early lead was 2011 Service
Rifle Champion Tim Klauer with his 199 in standing. Following him were
Cliff Adams' 194, and Illinois junior Matt Durdan's 193. Multiple state
champion John Holliger fired a 192 while three shooters fired a 190.
The only perfect score fired in sitting was SSG Richard Hartley of the
Army Reserve who shot a 200-8x. Ken Mahl, Konrad Powers, and John Lowe
all had 199's.
The top of the leaderboard didn't change any after sitting as Tim Klauer
still had the lead although Adams made up some ground and trailed by 4
points. Holliger was now 6 points behind and Powers 7 down. Iowa and
former All Guard shooter Lee Wells was down 8 points on Klauer.
While 200's in rapid prone aren't too common here, both Lowe and
Holliger shot them. Lowe winning the match on a single X over Holliger.
Powers and Wells came close with 199's while Hartley dropped two in this
stage.
Going into the last stage Klauer wasn't giving up his lead. Holliger was
clawing his way back and now only three points behind. Adams kept pace
and still trailed by four. Powers and Wells also made up some ground and
were within 5 and 6 respectively.
Just as he did at Camp Perry, Holliger proved his prowess at the 600
yard line by staying clean until his final shot. His 199 was the best of
the day and just ahead of Klauer's and Powers' 198's. Wells had a 196
and long-time service rifle shooter Don Bauer fired a 194.
Klauer's fantastic standing performance built the foundation for his 791
and his second Woody Coul trophy. Only a couple of points behind was
Holliger who kept chipping away all day and only dropped three points
after standing. Powers couldn't repeat as champion and finished third.
The ISRA would like to thank everyone who helped run the pits and line on all three days.
